Calculator
GVWR & GCWR Calculator
GVWR caps what your vehicle can weigh; GCWR caps vehicle plus trailer. Neither is printed as a “payload” or “max trailer” number — this calculator does that conversion for you.
Enter GVWR + curb weight (for payload), or GCWR + curb weight (for max trailer).
The two conversions this tool does
- GVWR − curb weight = payload. The most your vehicle can carry — people, cargo, and tongue weight. Full explanation: what is GVWR.
- GCWR − loaded vehicle = max trailer. Whatever combined-weight budget is left after your truck, passengers, and cargo is all the trailer you're allowed. Full explanation: GCWR explained.
Both results are rounded down to the nearest 10 lb — the same conservative rule as the rest of the site. And both are only two of the four limits that cap a real tow setup; the binding one is often payload.
Where the inputs come from
GVWR is on the driver's door-jamb certification label. Curb weight is in the owner's manual or spec sheet — or better, weigh the truck at a CAT scale, full of fuel, since published curb weights are for base configurations. GCWR usually isn't on the sticker at all: look in the manufacturer's towing guide for your engine and axle ratio.
Have your tow rating too? The full towing calculator checks all four limits at once and names the one that binds.
Estimate for planning. Confirm your vehicle's ratings on the door-jamb label and in the owner's manual — see the disclaimer.
